The Institute of Local Governance provides professional development courses specifically designed for NSW Local Government Councillors.
Following the implementation of CPD requirements for NSW Councillors under the under Part 8A of the NSW Local Government Regulations 2021, the Institute of Local Governance has developed training solutions specifically tailored for NSW Councillors. The course syllabus has been developed by a former councillor for current councillors.
Under the current regulations, NSW Councillors are required to have a Continuing Professional Development Plan, and to obtain all the skills necessary to carry out their statutory function. Councillors who do not undertake professional development are not fulfilling their obligations under the Act.
